Just a quick sanity check. BoatUS quoted me an annual premium of $251 for my 1997 H26. Is this a reasonable rate? I keep the boat in a slip on an inland lake in NJ and plan to trailer sail a couple times a year at other locations in the northeast. Thanks s/v Hydro-Therapy

Package Deal

Some of the 'Big Guns" in the insurance business that aren't normally in the marine insurance business will write your boat policy at a very good price if you already have multiple vehicles, houses, etc. insured with them. Don't overlook the possibility of a 'quantitiy buy'. Sometimes trailer and OBM theft insurance can be included on an existing homeowners policy. When some misfortune occurs, the next worst thing to being uninsured is to have multiple coverage. You'd better bet that they'll only pay once. Ken S/V Wouff Hong

Depends on coverage.

Does your quote cover your outboard and trailer and what was the agreed upon value of the package? Also watch for the sailing area coverage. My Boat/U.S. coverage is only for inland lakes, excluding the Great Lakes, and inland rivers. If you are going to the shore and will be sailing outside, make sure you are covered. All in all, it sounds about right.

USPS

As a member of United States Power Squadron(they do allow sailors) I pay $229/yr thru St Paul Companies. Covers boat and trailor and motor on inland lakes and rivers including great lakes. When I first switched from BoatUS to this coverage the difference was it was $65 cheaper. Now it looks like the gap is closing. Previous to that I contacted my insurance agent that I use for house, cars etc etc and thought he could quote me a better deal . The $600+ quote knocked my socks off and I shopped around.

Boatus offers riders

Have Boatus insurance and pay $267 for Great Lakes and tributaries and inland lakes and waterways. Just got back from Keys and was covered by $25.00 rider for week.

Insurance

I told them about the trailer and outboard. Also told them that I'd occasionally trailer sail. I'll have to double check with BoatUS to see if riders will be needed for those trips. s/v Hydro-Therapy

Just got coverage on my H240

Ron, I just insured my new H240 here in Florida with the Pier Group - they have a deal with Hunter. They have a link from the Hunter Marine web page. My cost was about $320 per year including trailer, motor etc.. Coverage is for inland and coastal use. I checked with BoatsUS and USPS. Pier Group was about $100 lower than the others. Hope this helps. Tony

Cut me off

Sorry, premature message sent before. I have Allstate 100 deduct and 1K on contents, cost around 133.00 per year. I have the boat in slip most of the year. Midwest rates may be a little cheaper??
