do an on line request for a quote with Progressive and see what you get i just did one and was surprised at the price they quoted me......and you can pick your options as you go....it was a lot better than i expected ....and i am sure geico is in about the same place so give them a try the same way and see what happens...

Progressive

I have Progressive since 2001 when I was in NY and now in since 2008 in Florida and very happy with them.

it helps if you have had a boaters safety course and put down all the experience you can remember..... like if you started boating when you were 18 and you are now 58 that is 40 years ..that helps too

Same here on Progressive.. After Katrina, Safeco, who I'd been with for many years, decided to not write insurance on boats over 26 feet long (!) so they dropped me .. I had no claims wth them.. State Farm (I have house and cars etc with them) wanted 250% of what I'd been paying Safeco.. Progressive did an "agreed on value" policy at about 15% more than Safeco had been charging.. I have no experience with GEICO, but every time I've talked to Boat US, they are talking twice what Progressive is charging.

I don't think the Boat U.S. insurance is through GEICO. I have Boat U.S. insurance and the carrier is National Indemnity Company, which is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. I would be very careful about making sure that you are comparing "apples to apples" when it comes to insurance coverages. The biggest issue is whether you are buying agreed value or depreciated coverage - that will make a huge difference in your premium.

We recently got rid of Progressive. We move our boat often and everytime we moved the boat, they raised our rate saying the area has higher rates. Even when we kept it at a previous Marina, they raised it instead of lowering. We started at $700 a year with them for a Pearson 323. Over the last two and a half years they have nickled and dined us to the point they wanted $1200 this year. We said pass and went with State Farm for $500 a year.
