Insurance for boats on the hard - Non-hurricane

My new boat is on the hard on the southern tip of Lake Michigan. I currently have Progressive who stated that they don't have a policy for boats on the hard. I have a personal vendetta against Geico. Any recommendations for a six month or so policy on a 94 C30?

Since you are mostly looking for liability insurance to meet the marina's need, you might try a rider to your homeowner's policy. Once you get ready to launch buy a yacht policy with agreed hull value.

Its mostly to protect the boat. The yard has the previous owner's insurance on file so they're not going to check. They stated that he paid and he is the point of contact. Unless the cradle suddenly collapses onto another boat or the disconnected battery starts on fire, I don't see it damaging anything. Mast is down as well. I haven't signed any paperwork. For all practical purposes they don't know that I exist.

While the previous owner has paid the storage fee, you probably want the marina to know you own the boat. If something did happen to the boat, it could get messy if the marina is unaware of the ownership change.

Since we're talking a low probability of anything happening to the boat, the home owner's rider may be the easiest short term solution.

The PO reached out to them. They weren't interested. He has to schedule launch and any work. Home owners insurance isn't an option

I have Progressive and don't think there is any clause that doesn't provide insurance when on the hard in a boatyard or marina? Most of us that have a boat have to put it up on the hard and I have heard that some insurance companies require or strongly encourage that you pull the boat when a hurricane is approaching. I have never been told that my boat was not insured when on the hard. Is this because you are trying to get the boat initially insured and it is on the hard or that it is a project boat and will be on the hard for a very long time? I am sure that the situation of a boat being on the hard when it is purchased is not at all unusual. Don't let a personal aversion to Geico keep you from using them if they are the only option.
