Surveyor noted that the DC panel is out of date [ofcourse] and must be rewired. Can any one recomend an insurer who accepts the 1967 design.

why not update?

Why would you not want to update? With some of the electronic items we use today on our boats. The older system would be s t r e c h e d to it's limit. I know for one I'd feel a whole lot better knowing it's been updated and it can handle any test that might come its way.Ever been in a electricial fire? Real smokey and smelly. No fun to extinguish either. The guy did you a favor. You could always remove all the wiring and sail it from there.I know that if I had the slip next to you I'd feel better also. Just my thoughts. Keep it up, ctskip

rewire the boat!

All the way through, new everything, It is 39 years old. It doesn't owe you anything. There is a probability that the insulation is brittle and the connections are corroded. I have no doubt that it has fuses, circuit breakers are much better and far more convenient. Locate the new panel above the water line where you can easily see it. Any insurer will want the boat modernized and a survey stating so.

Rewired

I recently completed an upgrade to my entire wiring and electrical systems. It was well worth it. I replace the Fuse panel with two circuit breaker panels, a new 125 amp alternator and 5 stage regu;ator, 4 6 volt golf cart batteeries located in the lazarett. E 75 watt solar panel, but now I don;t have any concerns about electical problems. Consider it, it is worth the time and money

Insurance upgrade

Davie, call A.B.Stevenson Co. @ 510-895-5915. He will require an in-water survey, the surveyor will write up the older factory wiring, but it will not stop you from getting the insurance, not unless there are other 'issues', and not the National Geographic variety...'-) Talk to Frank there, he's been in the business for forty years, and is a very helpful stand-up guy.
