It is that time of the year for my insurance renewal and was wondering what others are doing? Last year I went with International Marine Insurance Services (IMSI) and they put me with US Specialty Insurance Co. which does not have a program for me this year. IMSI has found me coverage with Clarendon National Insurance Co. I am in the Pacific NW and would like to know what the local guys are using for insurance?

I've just switched to Allstate (the auto people). I recently purchased a H40. The previous owner was with Allstate and they beat my insurance co. by 50%. I also noticed they had a booth at Sail Expo. in Oakland a few weeks ago.

Be sure you compare coverages and not just the premium. Most of the Marine companies offer agreed upon hull value as their standard product while general property and casualty may offer a depreciated hull coverage, the difference being if you buy $50k agreed hull value in 5 years it will still be $50k coverage if you buy $50k depriciated value your settlement would decrease with the age of the boat. The difference in premium may seem like a lot but if you have to use your policy you will be happier with the settlement. BTW Farmers offers 3 levels of policies, the Yacht policy is underwritten by Zurich, Farmers parent company. If you have specific questions you can email me at frankwithfarmers@yahoo.com
