I have a 1982 54 foot Hunter Sailboat. My insurance company wants a dry survey every two to three years. Is that standard for the industry, and can anyone recommend an insurance company that does not require this so often.

I need the insurance for my marina. Also is there other insurance I can get temporarily that would allow me to live on the boat for several more months, and give me more time before I have to haul out and get a dry survey?

Have you tried calling Boat US to inquire about rates and requirements? They have been very good to me so far.

This is very likely due to the age of the boat. If your current company requires a dry survey, you really either need to find a new company, which will probably require a survey or get a dry survey. Most insurance companies will REQUIRE a survey to insure a 28 year old boat.

Not sure what your home situation is but we insure all our vehicles and home through State farm and when we bought our boat we insure through them also. never have a problem. We didn't need a survey but then our boat is smaller and less than $10,000.00 value.
