So this is my first post here and I want to make it a good one.

I bought a fin keel C-22 and dropped her into a local reservoir. Since the fin keel is 3.5 feet deep I need to stay in 4 ft or more of water. Well around here the water is dropping inches a day: I decided to install a depth sounder as my first project.

I'm going to upload a few choice photos showing where I put in the display in the cockpit.

I'm very anxious about drilling ANY holes in a boat, so I looked for a way to install my little hummingbird depth sounder without holes. I realized that I'll probably seldom use the starboard side cockpit compartment, so...I made a little panel to fit instruments into. There was already a little crack at the top inside the compartment which ran down into the storage area on the starboard side. I routered the board to recess into the compartment and then stuck foam padding around the inside edge of the panel to prevent rattling and to help seal against water. OH, and I bought some cheap cabinet locks from Lowe's to put on each side. This keeps the panel in the compartment as well as people from taking the display (hopefully).

I hope this brings other creative thoughts out of those who read this. I thank you guys for leaving your thoughts on this forum, they have already helped me tons!

Good creative thinking there. Room for a knotmeter too (future project??).

If I may, what hull # is your 22?

For mounting the transducer, you can use a wax toilet gasket to mount it inside the hull and try out the location. If it works, you can use some thickened epoxy to secure it in the hull. Requires no holes to install, and shoots through the fiberglass and is still accurate. I've used this on a couple boats and it works slick!

Neil, hull # is 6273 and the PO had it registered as a 1971. There were very few options from the factory. I don't even have lifelines.
I hope to install a knotmeter, but for now my iPhone will be serving up info like that.
Don, I cut a short PVC pipe and playdoughed it in. Filled with water to check it. Then after drying and sanding I filled the pipe with silicone and squished the transducer in. After a few days of drying it worked fine.
