Not sure what everyone thought of but basically those plastic boats has a plastic for better lack of terms over structural foam. There is no coring. I saw them make those boats.

Dave, are you saying that the foam between the APC and the fiberglass inner wall should NOT be thought of as core?

Thank you all for the valuable thoughts and suggestions. I am not going to proceed with the through hull transducer. The risk is not worth it. I may look into the transom mount in the future.

Thanks again!

One thing I have wondered.. shoot through the hull works fine (at least with non cored fiberglass) for DEPTH...

But what about if you are actually using one of those for fishing.. There has to be less loss in signal and additional noise from having the transducer in the water vs. going through the hull material.

do you get more detail, better resolution, "see the fish better" if the transducer is in the water?

Big strips of stick on Velcro could help you to find the perfect location for a transom transducer, and then you could probably glue the mount on.

Jackdaw;

I saw those boats made and even figured out how to repair them and passed on that information.

Basically it is a molded plastic sheet that was glued onto a construction foam Foam pressed onto the plastic in a mold. I think of coring something within or inside of another material and that is not the case here. In addition, drilling thru that plastic, one may very well cause the hull to crack and the fact the plastic contracts and expands is another reason against a thru hull for fear of cracking.

Like I said, if you have worked with that material, then you would tend to agree. Happy New Year. jackdaw, thank you for all your valuable assistance over the years as your impute is very valuable.

I have a depth/fish finder that shoots through plumbers putty and fiberglass. I see lots of fishies when I'm out. Even saw a shallow school of fish on the display and in the water. I'd say it works pretty well.

What are you brand/model are you using for a depth finder?

Humminbird. I think it's the 172. I'll have to find a picture to confirm. The instructions did not say it would work as a shoot through the hull but it works perfectly.
