We're attempting to install a Lectra/San Type I MSD on our newly purchased 1997 376. We're at a bit of a loss as to where to locate the unit. Has anyone else out there put one on? Any ideas/suggestions on how/where to position it?

It should be...

within 6' of the toilet, and at or below the same level as the toilet discharge. Some people put them under vanities, in hanging lockers...anyplace that's relatively close to the hull and any existing toilet discharge thru-hull.

VACUFLUSH DOES NOT HAVE TO BE 6FT FROM THE HEAD

VacuFlush is just a toilet, not a treatment device

The Lectra/San is a CG certified Type I MSD that treats waste to legal overboard discharge standards, and may be used in all waters except those desiginated "no discharge" (holding tank, pump out only). It's installed after the toilet...waste flushes into it for treatment and maceration before being discharged overboard. The VacuFlush is just a toilet. What you think is an overboard discharge pump is the toilet's vacuum pump. It pushes waste through it to either the tank or overboard, then re-establishes vacuum in the system after each flush. The VacuFlush does not treat waste, and cannot legally flushed directly overboard except at sea beyond the "3 mile limit." Flushing directly overboard requires adding a separate treatment device after the vacuum pump--either a Lectra/San (plus a salt feed tank, because the V/Flush uses fresh water), or a SeaLand SanX. I suggest you read your VacuFlush owners manual to learn how the system works. It also includes the most comprehensive trouble-shooting guide of any owner's manual, and familiarizing yourself with it now will save you doing all the wrong things when it needs service.
