I'm installing a new raymarine a60 GPS Chartplotter. Any advice on where to locate the GPS sensor and how to best do it? I have a 2006 Hunter 33. The unit will be mountaed atop my Lewmar NavPod.

Any advice is welcomed!

On our h320 we located it on the stern rail, port side.

We ran the cable under the cockpit sole. We have a Garmin and it is just an external antenna pod but it should work just as well with the exception that I would make sure it is not in a place where it could accidentaly be knocked down as your unit is more expensive.

Mine (H260) is mounted on the stern rail. As long as the antenna gets a clear view of the satellites that is all it cares about. So if you can route the cable easily and have purty lookin' place to put it, it will work.

Routing Wire Through Stern Rail

Ya...routing through the hull into the stern rail seems to be a bit of a project.....not sure that's my best route.

Most On Stern Rail, But....

one hint, put a short extension on it (maybe a foot or so). Reason: at least on mine, and I suspect anyone who has stern rail seats, guests tend to rest their hands on the antenna, effectively fouling up the signal. I think a short pole would solve that. Also, I think it's worth the trouble to route it through the stern rail. RD

check your manual

Many Hunter are built with wirign chases going to the stern - mine even had messenger lines pulled ready to use. My 410 even came with the coax in place for some options that were not factory installed.....

On my H310 I came out through the backside of the coaming on the port side. A common S/S clam shell with silicone to make water tight. I mounted on the lower rail of stern pulpit next to rail seat after having problems with hands grabbing it on the top rail. It has worked it this position with no issues for nearly 4 years.
