Installing Garmin GWS 10 Wind Sensor on trailerable boat

I ordered a Garmin GWS 10 Wind senor for my O'day 23. The mast can be un-stepped when I want to trailer the boat, so the connection to the NMEA 2000 network inside has to be able to be disconnected.

QUESTION: Are the standard NMEA 2000 connectors weatherproof? UV Resistant? How can I make a disconnect-able connection from the foot of the mast outside to the cabin interior?

Thanks!

The NMEA network connects devices not their sensors. The sensor wires come down the mast and go to the individual instriment display heads. The NMEA network connects the display heads.
So you will need one mult-wire weatherproof connector for each sensor cable going up the mast. My Raymarine has all the wires in one cable.
also consider how the connector is going to get through the deck when you disconnect it. ie is the hole big enough for it to pass.

Bill's thinking older NMEA-0183. The Garmin GWS-10 wind sensor IS a NMEA-2000 device. It connects directly to a NMEA-2000 network via a backbone cable. You can cut these cables and install connectors at the ends to fit the mast length, and one inside the boat. I suggest you run a cable inside your mast and then outside of the bottom of the mast, and add a connector. Connect it to a matching connector/cable that comes thru the deck via a waterproof gland. Blue Sea Systems makes a great one.

I stand corrected. The sensor does in deed directly connect to the NMEA 2000 netowrk.
Course at $600 for just the sensor and $120 for the cable I'm thinking I'd rather have my raymarine wind, depth, and speed (with displays) but it's your $$$

Bill, Like you I've got Raymarine stuff on both of my boats, but I often look lustfully at the new color multifunction Garmins. Bundled with the head unit, it often sells as a system for less than $800. Like here:

OS2, I have been sailing trailerable boats for quite a while and have found that I must remove my "Windex" from the masthead whenever I tow the boat. If not done the speeds encountered on the road will bend it up quite nicely. Will that be needed and possible with your new instrument?
Enjoy not bending your neck.

Actually, I found a good deal on the GWS 10 and starter Network set at Hodges Marine. These two, plus an additional cable with a 90 degree connector for about $555 (That includes shipping too). My chart plotter will use the info and display the data on its screen. (It already gives me Speed and Depth)

Thanks everyone for your input.

The last question that still needs answered is: Are the NMEA 2000 connectors UV resistant as well as weather proof?

Actually, Garmin now has a bundle that includes the GWS10, the GM10 display and a nmea 2000 speed, temp, depth thru hull transducer for about $1,000. You can connect the GMI10 to a newer chart plotter via nmea 2000 or and older one via nmea 0183. This will allow you to display speed, temp and depth on your chart plotter.

I just bought the garmin 541s, sonar, temp, fishfinder ,most important depth. I already have the transducer in front of the keel. $643.00 with an extended 3 year warranty included. I sold my garmin 478 4yrs old on ebay for $605, it worked great however I needed a garmin GSD 20, 0r 21,sounder, $ 4-5 hundred, and they r discontinued. This new one has the sonar capability built in. My depth guage is inside, I need to stretch around the wheel and look down into the nav desk, or have a person calling the depth. Dragging around 6'2" I need it in my face.....Red
