Been trying to find some info on installing curtain rods in a 26s. Above the windows it looks like the inside liner has no gap in between the outside liner above the windows. Has anyone installed curtains and how did you fasten the rod holders.

On my 26D I just removed them. They were bolted through the deck and leeking. I'll be filling the holes this weekend. When the Admiril orders me to install curtains I'll probably use velcro to attach the curtains.

Velcro, I don't know how the human race survived so long with out it. :)

If you can find a place in the liner above the window with sufficient space for a rivnut, and if you curtains and rod aren't too heavy, the puller and rivnuts can be purchased inexpensively at Harbor Freight. A self-tapping screw will not hold and will loosen up and fall out, after all, the inside liner is glass. When setting rivnuts, I find it takes a light touch when pulling up the rivnut, or it is possible to strip out the threads during installation. Rivnuts are THE very best way to mount light items in the glass, like lights, circuit breaker panels, switch panels etc. Post pics please

On the Macgregor the screws when all the way through. With calking they never leaked. The Catalina cleverly uses the corner screws that hold the port ring to mount a spring clip that hold the aluminum curtain rod extrusion. Unfortunately the spring clips are made of spring steel and the have rusted. Still looking for solution.

I haven't been able to find rivnuts. I did a search on the Harbor Frieght, Lowes, and Home Depot sites, didn't come up with any. Are they sometimes called something else?

Yes the product is called a threaded insert. $16.95 for a kit and they sell inserts by the box. Rivnut is an aviation term for the same thing.....

Thanks for the replys. The rivnuts unfortunately have to go all the way through the liner to the outside. I believe there is no gap between the two liners. Has anyone tried an epoxy glue. The curtains are light weight, but we do want to open and close them. A lot of places we want to go means layovers in marinas and we don't want others looking in at night.

I cannot tell you where to install you curtain mounts. The factory through-bolt was quick and dirty. I can tell you that your boat is made of 4 major pieces: upper and lower liners and the hull and deck. If you pick a new curtain mounting site ABOVE the old screw line, isn't there a thicker, rolled under area of the upper liner where there is room for the threaded inserts? think outside the box............

The 25 does not have a liner above the windows.

My solution was a 1/2 by 1/8 stainless rod with three #8 screws thru bolted from the out side of the cabin, they are hard to see.

The 26M has wooden frames around each window. We attached Mahogany blocks at both ends of each window that support upper and lower oak dowel curtain rods.

Thanks Marc. You may have just given me an idea. I may be able to use longer screws for the windows and screw them into some mahogany strps. Right now the screws for the windows have caps on them in the inside of the boat. This may work and add some more wood accents to go with the rest of my wood projects in the boat.

Did you say wood projects? Please post pics! I've been working on adding more wood to the interior of my 26S, and would love to see what your ideas are. Wood definitely warms things up a bit. I love boats with beautiful wood interiors.

I added a few access doors to storage areas. Now we do not have to lift seat cushions and hatch covers to get at things.

I went to Lowes and got some cabinet knobs, glued them to the hull on either side of the window with epoxy and then ran some shock cord between the two knobs. I folded the curtain material over the shock cord and glued the seam with a hot glue gun. Tied a loop in the ends of the shock cord and buttoned the cord over the knobs.

Cost about $5.
