installing cunningham for a 30

Does anyone sell a kit for the cunningham for the Catalina 30?

It seems like the bottom block has to have some play or it would over-tighten the main if the boom is eased eased?

The cunningham is so close to the gooseneck that it shouldn't be a problem. Most of us have made up our own cunninghams. Some use multiple blocks, but we have Harken Batt Cars on our luff, so only need a line led aft then up through the cringle to a cleat on the other side of the mast. I've found cunningham hooks tend to fall out, and on our C25 I used a more U shaped hook compared to the almost L shaped cunningham hook.

I used a soft vang, which I purchased from Garhauer. It really doesn't need to be a big contraption. I also installed a cunningham on the jib using a small Garhauer boom vang. Both work better for me than messing with the halyards plus you can obtain the exact adjustment you're looking for. Using the halyard involves the whole weight of the sails.

Thanks. I sounds like you lead it back to the cockpit after puttng the line through a fairlead or turning block. Did you do that or cleat it at the mast?

I use block and tackle which is nothing more than a boom vang with a hook. I have often thought I could probably get by with one vang with a snap shackle since the boom vang is used for off wind sailing and the Cunningham for close haul sailing.

Cam cleat at bottom of rig by mast. Line led back to cockpit. Good snap can free it most of the time.
