Does anyone have a helpful comment regarding installation of cleats at midship for spring lines? Size? Where? Thanks!

Good toe rail attachables

There are good designs in the archives that mount to your toerail if you have one. Otherwise you will need to bolt through the deck. On our h27, ours are deck mounted even though we have a toe rail, since that is the most secure, and cleanest approach. I would use the same size as the cleats on the bow and stern. The spring lines are great for getting in and out of the dock. And they add security to our standard tie-up. David Lady Lillie

Mine has em, but watch ur toes

The previous owner mounted good sized ones, probably 5" on either side. They are mounted through the deck above where the stereo speakers are located inside the cabin. I suspect he removed the speakers to attach the nuts on the underside. They are pretty close to the toe rail. If you want specifics let me know and I will get the exact measurements. Note, however, that they can be a problem on the decks. Although I don't recall any safety issues, I do remember stubbing my toe one time and it really hurt.

Toe Rail Cleat

I attached a short length of heavy stainless angle to the toe rail with a 1/2" carriage bolt and attached the cleat to it. The cleats were purchased from Hunter so they match the others. Keep the base of the cleat even with the top of the toe rail.

TX on cleat replies, Ray, can you elaborate

You mentioned backing with a piece of angle iron, but I don't understand where you located it with respect to the toerail. Could you elaborate on whether it is inside the toerail with the cleat on the outside? (possible aggravation when alongside other boats) Or is the cleat inside the toerail raised above the level of the toerail? Many thanks, Dean

toe rail 37.5

The angle iron is inside the toe rail and just slightly above its height. This is installed on my 37.5 and is used daily. If you want the exact size I can get back to you in a few days. Ray

Toe rail or Genoa track cleats available

These are off-the-shelf items available from the various retail outlets. Some are heavy duty. The ones I gave do not fold down as some do, but being mounted on the toe rail, they are not in the way. They are quite robust. It is really handy when coming into a side-on dock, you can easily take (or through) a spring line and a stren line ashore... This will allow you to control the boat. Other lines can be added later.

Toe rail on blocks

I mounted mid-ship blocks on my 35.5. Method would work the same on a 37.5. I bought some Starboard, cut it into rectangles, and laminated them together to get thickness slightly greater than height of the aluminum toe rail. I mounted large cleats just inside the toe rail by drilling through the Starboard blocks and the toe rail. Through bolted the cleats through the blocks and toe rail with long stainless bolts. Strong at the rail, and outboard location prevents damage to my bare feet.

cleats

call hunter directly and you can buy additional cleats that are identical to the ones on your boat. Then mount the cleats on the toerail with a block to raise them above the outside edge. remove one bolt that holds the deck to the hull and drill a hole for the other bolt. Very simple. Good luck!
