I have bought a 2000 watt inverter for my Beneteau Sail boat. Is there a way to install it into the 110 system with a switch so when I am not using shore power I can switch over and use my 110 outlets via the inverter.

Go to an RV store and ask for a amp automatic switch over ...about 60.00 bucks ..never have to worry about switching over

I thought most inverters did that automatically as does my old but still functional Xantrex 2000.

Maybe for a combo shore power charger / inverter unit, but not for a stand alone inverter.

My xentrex which was wired at the factory has a switch to turn it on - looks like a standard Beneteau battery switch . Also I have to switch the main 110 power supply from shore power to inverter/battery.

I installed a Magnum 2K inverter/charger on my Ben 343 and installed their control panel which switches between charger and also monitors the battery bank condition. The inverter is wired into the 110.V panel for outlets and the Microwavew It has a power transfer relay that switches automatically when shore power is lost or manually switched on. Hope this help[s

What inverter did you buy? The answer to your question depends on that, since some units have automatic transfer switches built in. You NEVER want to have the inverter and the shorepower live at the same time.

If your inverter doesn't have a built in switch you need something like this:

My Bene has an OEM inverter. In addition to an auto-transfer switch (with manual over-ride), there is a heavy duty battery disconnect selector next to the other battery disconnect selectors.

I would not consider this new install a DIY, given the DC amperage, AC voltage, and grounding considerations.
