Hi Peggie, Best of luck with your Dad. You helped me out a couple of years ago on my old boat and I have your book. Ivan mis-treated my old Hunter 30, and we now have a 1987 Morgan/Catalina 41 Classic. I've decided to install an Electro Scan on the aft head and would appreciate any pointers or recomendations you might have. Removing the old holding tank would be a real pain because of the way it's mounted, so I think i'm going to leave it in place and "Y" valve it into the system in case I go someplace where I can't pump the waste from the Electro Scan overboard. Since the Electro Scan is kind of new, I was wondering what you thought of it and if it was really a big improvement over the Lecta San. Thanks, Steve

The controller is the main difference

The treatment unit is the same as previous Lectra/San versions. And the new controller is a HUGE improvement...LEDs that actually tell you what's happening instead of blinking lights...uses less power than previous versions, which extends the life of the electrode pack to at least twice that of previous versions. You'll find all this and more on the Raritan website at http://www.raritaneng.com/products/waste_treatment/index.html It still has to be within 6' of both the toilet and the discharge thru-hull. As for keeping the tank on the aft head...there are only two NDZs on whole Gulf--Destin Harbor and the FL Keys. So although it'll be a PITA to get the aft tank out, you have one on the forward head that you can use if you absolutely have to...and removing the aft tank--or, if both toilets are connected to the same tank, remove the plumbing from the aft head to it--will really simplify the plumbing.
