Hunter 290 Haverstraw
Hi, I have a 2001 Hunter 290 and I want to install an air conditioner. I was thinking of installing in under the Port seat, where I believe it will fit, and use the same water intake as the engine, putting in a Y valve. My first question has anyone done this and what was their experience. Secondly where did you mount the water pump? Were you able to run ducts forward and aft, and where did you mount the controls for the unit? Any input would be welcome.

Here are some generic thoughts since I don't know your layout. My Mermaid 12K unit is almost exactly the size of a standard cardboard box. I think that I cut one inch off the top. Made a perfect template for trying places. I also used a T-valve to share the engine seacock. I mounted my pump and filter in the bilge, close to the input. Kind of a long hose run to the unit but it works well. My water outlet is right behind the unit through the middle of the bootstripe. That was the only hole I had to drill. I did not run duct work. It blows out into the middle of the salon. Normally that is enough but a fan will distribute the air when it is extra warm.

Try Hunter

Try calling hunter marine to ask if they could send you a lay out of how they installed it at the factory.
