installing ac

We want to install ac in our 42 ft. center cockpit. We were thinking of a 10,000 btu for the aft cabin and galley, and a 12,000 btu for the main cabin and v-berth. We are in the Gulf Coast of Texas. Is this enough, too much, not enough? Any suggestions.

Hi Jane, I have a Catalina 320 in Florida on the Gulf Coast and have a 16,500 BTU that cools that boat nicely. Vents are in the aft cabin and above the fridge in the main cabin. Smaller boat so no need to cool the vee birth but it sounds like more than enough to cool the boat though I am not an A/C engineer. Good luck and cool sailing!
