I need to install a wind vane on my 72 Ericson 27'. I know I need to use a bosun's chair to get up there but what will I find up there? How does a wind vane attach? Do I need to buy a specific type? Thanks for any help. Sean

Most common

masthead windvanes, like the popular Windex, either come with mounting hardware or you can buy a universal kit. See link. You'll probably need to make about 2 trips aloft: 1. to look around and survey the masthead and 2. to bring with you the needed tools and windvane to mount. As a minimum, you'll probably need a manual or portable electric drill to drill the mounting holes and a suitable screwdriver. I think a windvane is a very important and handy device which makes sailing both easier and more fun. Good luck with yours.

Sean, if you do not know what is up there I strongly urge you to let a yard do it! Or have the mast lowered, or go under a bridge and have a friend do a photo? i have been there and dun dat1 I know have a mast lowering system that i have designed and i can lower or raise the mast with almost one hand. it is a 27 foot lancer. ciao capy bill
