Has anybody installed a wheel pilot on a 306 or 290 that has the large pedestal. It only has about 2.5 inches between the wheel and the pedestal. Which is the better pilot, The Raymarine 4000 0r the Simrad 30. Thanks for any help, Jim Barger

Jim, I've done it. Just have to cut a well located hole into the pedastal to insert the motor. Works fine. Dan Jonas (S/V Feije II)

290 wheelpilot

Dan's got the right answer-I did the same on my 29.5, the hole holds the motor in place

My 290 had the ST-4000. But I think the better option is to use the stainless mounting pin outside the box rather than putting the motor in a hole.

wp30 has better specs.

Jim: The WP30 has better specs but I have no idea how you would mount one. I would contact Simrad and see what they say. They may have a mounting kit for these new pedestals.

Installed an ST-5000+

under the deck panel behind the pedestal of my 29.5. It was a little more work but it works well and is out of the way; no belt or manual engage/disengage and is independent of the wheel steering.
