Check the archives. We covered this about 6 weeks ago. There should be some good info in the archives

Mini speakers & subwofer

As a suggestion, perhaps consider something like a car stereo with mini speakers (boxes about, say, 7 or 8 inches high) with a subwofer (put under the chart table?). Get the car stereo with a remote control and a remote CD changer. Try to install the stereo without cutting a large hole in the teak. The high frequency tweters are very directional whereas the subwofer is omni directional. Mid range somewhere inbetween.

Definitely a Changer

I just installed a "marine" stereo in my boat and now wish to heck I'd installed a CD Changer at the same time. I get busy doing "stuff" on the boat and suddenly realize I've heard that (&*^&)*&)@#$ song for the eleventh time. I fixed that by changing the setting to "play once then stop" but then discovered I would work for a couple of hours then suddenly realize there was no music playing. Obviously, I'd have to stop what I was doing, and change the CD. Of course, I could probably fix this problem by installing a FM antenna and listening to the radio. But that would be too easy.

boat speakers

on my 43 I've converter to a dolby5.1 system made for computers by cambridge soundworks. The system consists of 5 small cube speaks plus a small subwoofer and will run off 12V. The small speaks can be mounted almost anywhere. The preamp level output from my 12v cdplayer/changer feeds the built in amp as well as the output from my computer DVD player. I get great sound from small unobtrusive speaks. the system costs around $300 at ompusa. I have a flat LCD screen display from viewsonic that serves as a large computer display, a 15in screen for my DVd and also accepts composite video from a small 12Vvcr that also serves as a tuner for the cable/antenna. the native voltage for the LCD screen is 12V also. My laptop has a 12V native input one would use on an airplane. My entire system runs off 12v obviating the need for the inverter to run any of these appliances.
