Installing a power anchor winch

We anchor fairly frequently in British Columbia where the water is relatively deep. This requires considerable scope and chain which, as I age, has gotten quite heavy to retrieve. I want to install, if at all possible, an electric anchor winch. I have a number of questions: first, is there anyone with expereince in doing this? Has anyone tried to install a winch inside the anchor well? If so what brand and model? I obviously need a winch that is both rather small and sufficiently powerful. I want one that does not intrude much into the forward bunk space because I would prefer it still remain usable as a sleeping space. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. rjpurdy@worldnet.att.net

Windlass on 87 H31

Ross, we have an 87 Hunter 31 with an electric windlass that handles our anchor very well. I use 75 feet of chain and 250 feet of 1/2 rode. We are in BC and anchor out almost 100% of the time. The windlass is mounted just aft of the anchor locker with deck mounted switches. Switches also mounted in the cockpit. I can give you more details if you email me your address to rick.mccall@home.com.
