Hi All, we will be getting our new genoa this friday. After some delay (atleast I feel they were delays) it will be delivered and installed this weekend. I have a installation question: before installing the sail, is it a good idea to turn the furling a few times to wind up some more rope ? a few times when the wind was strong the sail got furled tighter than others. this made the sheet not go around the sail but rather hang out a foot or so. We then had to take it out and roll it up again and it sits perfect. It's just a few feet but will this give me an indication if its furled too tight ? Any tips appreciated.

fill up the drum

Before you hoist the new genoa, even if its the same size as your original sail, take a few extra wraps on the drum. Enough at least that you have a half dozen turns of furling line remaining when the sail is completely rolled up with 3 or 4 turns of the jibsheets wrapped around the furled jib. Make sure there is enough line left to get back to the point in the cockpit where you normally secure your furling line. In any event, I wouldn't rely on the sheets to hold the sail completely wrapped up, the wind could eventually loosen the sail, use a sail tie or two as extra insurance

Bungy cord

I use a bungy cord around mine. I have to leave the sheets hang loose or the birds will sit on them and leave a mess on deck. I double wrap a bungy cord around the sheets at the clew.
