I have a 2001 Oceanis 331 purchased in the States but moving to Canada; I want to install a macerator for pumping out the waste tank (legal in Canadian waters off-shore). Has anyone undertaken that retrofit; if so can you provide some guidance. Regards, Greg

Greg,
I have considered installing a macerator on my Oceanis 343; however, it isn't a high priority. I did see a schematic in the owners manual for the macerator system. It appears that a pickup tube extends from the top of the holding tank to the bottom of the tank. A 90 degree fitting is attached to the top of the tank (externally) onto which the pickup tube is connected to, inside the tank. Sanitation hose connects to the 90 degree fitting atop the tank and is routed to the intake side of the macerator pump. The pump is located under the lavatory in the head. A separate sanitation hose is routed from the output side of the pump to a macerator thru hull & valve. According to the diagram, the macerator plumbing circuit is totally separate from the "Y" valve plumbing circuit. There is a macerator circuit breaker installed on the 12 volt electrical panel. There is also a rubber covered hold down switch located on the lavatory cabinet in the head. The switch must be pushed on with continuous finger pressure to operate the pump. There is a caution note that states " the pump must not run dry for longer than 15 seconds as the pump impeller will fail due to excess heat." Email me if you would like for me to send a copy of the schematic.
