Installing a holding tank on a Hunter 27

Hello all. We have just purchased our first sail boat, a Hunter 27 Cherubini. Our most recent previous boat was a power cruiser, with a porta potti. I insisted our next boat have a holding tank, but when we saw this sail boat we knew it was a perfect fit and I had to sacrifice the holding tank requirement. SO now I have been pondering how and if its possible to install a pump head and holding tank. The head looks very simple, the tank not so much. Has anyone seen or done this with a hunter 27?

On my '81, the holding tank is under the V Berth on the Starboard side. You can look there and see if there is one there. If so, a previous owner has removed the head.

a thread has just went by on this very subject, although the brand of boat was different. I can only imagine that you would have very little more space to add tankage than he does...

The three possibilities I see are
1) the fresh water tank is mounted in the v-birth. It is molded into the fiberglass. It has a freshwater seacock so there really is no need for it. I could plum it to be the new holding tank. However it will require a lot of new holes in an old boat. I don't want to do that to her

2) installing a custom tank under the starboard bench. It would take up a large space and once again require holes on the top side.

3) installing a larger porta potti and maybe plum a pump out into the tank of the porta potti. (My sea ray cruiser was set up this way)

I was hoping someone wood pop up on the forum and say oh ya, go to this website it has all you need. ?

Just go with a porta-potty and install a deck fixture and hose for pumping out.

This was the original equipment on our '77 h27 and it has served us very well for 14 seasons. Because flush water is near nothing, effective capacity is as good as a 12 gallon holding tank, allowing the two of us 4-5 days between pump-outs. We average 30 nights aboard per summer, and love to anchor out. We have cruised for 3-4 weeks straight a number of times.

Because we use an oxygenator (Odorlos), smell is not an issue. Pumping out is from a deck fixture, the same as a holding tank, except it's faster. Have a look at the recent thread on this issue, especially Peggy's contributions.

In any case, you have a great cruising boat, with a surprising turn of speed while reaching.

I have read the arrival you mentioned, it does make sense. We have to teen daughters so with a total of three ladies inboard it fills quickly. We're lucky to make it through a weekend. I'm thinking adding the pluming to pump out the porta potti will be my best bet. Thanks for the feed back.
Regarding the vessel it's self. We have heard nothing but good about this model. I've been a boater all my life, an disbelieve in "boat gods", they have been good to me. The boat gods dropped this vessel in front of us. Exact price, size and shape we were looking for. Even added a trailer to keep winter storage more affordable.

look in to C-HEAD ..currently living on board a 1979 h27 4 nights a week Hudson river NYC. Most user friendly of this type from what I have researched plus it fits in our boats.. Check out "bucket" model.
