Installing a generator in a Hunter 410

Who has installed a generator in their Hunter 410? Were you able to install it from the outside betaking off the top of the starboard locker cover? If so what generator did you install.

I'm going to make a mockup and ensure that fits before ordering a unit, but figured no harm in asking for real life experience.

If Hunter offered a generator on the 410, getting a hold of the "SOP" from Hunter would be invaluable. When I installed a Mase 7.6 in my 41DS I followed a lot of what was said in the SOP.

I installed a NextGen in mine. I would not recommend a Next Gen but that is another story. At the time I installed mine I didn't realize the starbord lazzerett top would come off. So I don't know if mine would have fit in that way.
I installed mine down through the compainion way. I used a halyard to lift it off the yard and another tied to my car so it would not crash into the side of the boat when I lifted it. After I had it up I just moved the car in and it worked perfectly. Lowered down next to the engine. Then moved the halyard down into a hatch in the stern. I had a four wheel dolly on the back berth, lifted it onto that, then wheeled it back.
I cut an access area in the back bulhead. It slid right onto the mounting area.
I have used the access plate many times when servicing the generator. So even if it fits down the lazzerett, an access hole will come in handy. I can send you some picks if you like.

No need for the photos as I just have to believe that a generator will fit down that aft locker if I take the cover off. I think the boat OEM offered generator was an Onan 5KW unit.

What issues do you have with your Next Gen as that was in the the lead for selction before I cam across a Lombardini unit.

Generator Install in Hunter 410

I had a Fisher Panda generator installed in my 2002 Hunter 410. On my boat, the starboard lazarette on the swim platform has removable walls that were held in by sealant and screws. Removing them allowed enough room to insert the generator. It is actually positioned under the removable panel in the bottom of the starboard corner cockpit lazarette. I am very happy with the install and the generator.

NextGen:
1. If you turn the RPMs up to handle both A/C units the generator overpowers the charger/inverter on start up and the A/C circuits will not engage. The work around is to have the hot water heater on when the circuit engages but that only works if the hot water is not already hot from running the engine all day. If you turn the rpms down then you can only run one A/C unit.
2. The alternator side of the generator overheats. I installed a blower right on top of the generator and I have to leave part of a lazzertt open for exhaust. Even with this the alternator can overheat on really hot days.
3. The generator is noisy.
4. I have blown capacitors because of the heat problem.

I have worked with NextGen staff on my issues but no one has been able to sastisfactory solve the problem. I have learned to live with one A/C unit while at anchor.
