I would like to install a flat panel tv on the cabin wall in the saloon on my '06 Hunter 33. Any suggestions as to what tv? Best way to wire an antenna, etc?

Tim, I installed a 17" Phillips when we bought the boat. I mounted it on the Starboard side of the saloon. I had a Shakespeare antenna with booster installed at the top of the mast. I then installed a A/B coax selector in the hanging locker in the v-berth. I ran the B connection to the Shakespeare booster, which is installed in behind the 12 volt panel, and the A side, I ran coax up through the cabin top cover for the wires heading up the mast. I then put in a co-ax connecter, and sealed it, and this is how I can plug into Cable when dockside. Now, I will say, I've had very poor coverage with the Shakespeare antenna, but everyone I know who has this type of setup, regardless of antenna, has bad poor reception. I also use a Xbox as a DVD player, and to keep kids busy when they get bored. Hope that helps. Jason s/v On Site Again 2004 Hunter 33

12VDC flat panel

I've been thinking about adding this screen to my H33. It only requires 12VDC. www.qualitymobilevideo.com/LCDP150.aspx

Andrew: The monitor you link to is analog.

Google NTSC for details, but this is the signal going away in Feb 2009. You will also need an analog to digital converter. I have a similar monitor/tv that runs on 12 volts and installed the following digital converter that also runs on 12 volts. http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?PROD=T3APro It works great and I am amazed at how many digital signals are out there already. I have one of those powered antennas at the top of my mast that looks like a flying saucer, and am very pleased with that setup.

Magnavox

Got a 20" Magnavox with built in DVD player at Sam's along with a mount, TV about $250, mount about $39 which is a lot less than at Best Buy or other places. The mount swivels so you can move the screen around for best viewing. So far as antennas I don't know, I'm struggling with that too. Got a satellite dish on the dock for when we're dockside but out use rabbit ears and get decent reception on 2 or 3 channels but I guess with the move to digital that's gonna change in the near future.

Thanks, Mulf!

based on your recommendation I ordered one of the arctec converters and it worked great! got 9 clear digital stations just outside of Portland with only one of their cheapo passive antennas at deck level for the test. the real irony is the converted channels are much clearer than the cable connection I have in my slip!
