Bow thrusters in HR

Hi Eric, Thanks for responding. I think I will be opting for an SP 200TC which is a 10KW / 13.1 HP unit. The big questions I have relate to how to power it. I already have a 24v battery bank for domestic (including hydraulic reefing and windlass) plus 12v for nav instruments plus 12v cranking battery for the main engine and generator. Current thinking is that I need yet an other dedicated battery bank located just forward of the mast so that the power supply line is shortened. My two alternators are already in use so how do I charge this extra bank? I presume there is some sort load management gizmo that will distribute the charge to where it is required. Any suggestions? Thanks again and have a happy festive season. Regards, Fred fred.rogerson@rra.ie

Charging the bow thruster batteries.

Hello Fred, The system used on my HR 352 (Astrélaé) to charge the thruster batteries is simple and cheap. It's called a "separateur" (in french) and works very well. I used it for 4 years now without problems. I am sending you via your email some documentation. Regards. Bernard.
