I want to replace my current 2 blade prop on my 78 H30 with a 3 bladed. Can someone recommend the correct diameter and pitch for that application. I am powered by the original YSB 12 and have a 1" Bronze shaft.

I would suggest that you contact a prop shop. Have them size it for you and let them be responsible for the sizing.

I would also suggest that you look at Campbell Props.

Get a Campbell Sailer 12" diameter x 7 pitch LH. That was the suggested prop for my boat....same boat same engine, except a ysm12

Steve always suggests Campbell. I always counter with Flex-O-Fold. How long we been doing this Steve? A call to the owner got me the right two-blade for my old engine. After I repowered I bought a three-blade. He sized me perfectly both times.

folding prop is nice but Yamar 12 will not power this prop.

Look on eBay lots of props on there. I bought a martec folder and had it rebuilt for about half of new cost.

I had a YSM 12 on my 79 H30C with the stock, 2 blade prop and I had low power thrust issues maneuvering in high wind and current. Was told that the engine wouldn't push a three blade prop, fixed or folding. I suffered in performance for over twenty years.

Then I came into some money and repowered with a 2GM20 and a three blade fixed prop. Intuition now flies at hull speed under power alone and sails at 7 kts.

Hunter knew the 30s were underpowered in 78 - 79 but they built to a price formula. So I learned how to sail my way out of trouble knowing the motor wasn't going to save my butt alone.

Now I can plan a cruise leg on the ICW and expect to arrive within the hour projected. I am actually less tired after a long motoring trip because I'm piloting a moving vessel and not just inching my way around markers and pounding through currents. Also the noise and vibration are reduced by 60% with the two cylinder engine.

A repower installed will cost less if a serviceable used engine could be found as I did. I should have borrowed the money ten years earlier and not missed out on some great trips
