I am interested in purchasing and installing an Autopilot using the the wheelpilot type. The problem is how to install a wheelpilot when you have a fiberglass console pedestal like my Hunter 340 rather than a regular wheel pedestal. I checked on the ST4000 and they have a kit for this problem. I have also checked the archives, but there is no specific answer other than I believe alot of people are installing this type somehow. Question: has anyone been successful in installing a Simrad WP32 or WP30 wheelpilot when you have a fiberglas console pedestal? If so, how did you do it? Does the manaufacturer have a bracket? Thanks, Mark M.

Call SimradUSA

Form their website - just ask for support. For technical service questions - email the Service Department or call Product Support at 800-426-5565 Sailnet sells a "flushmount kit" but they could not tell me exactly what it was for :) But support at simrad has been very good when I have called previously.

I think you need about 3.5 to 4 inches

Mark: I just spoke with them a few weeks ago about this exact problem. They indicated that I needed about 3.5 to 4 inches of clearance for the unit to fit. I do not think I can get this much clearance on my pedestal on my Hunter Vision 36. Edson does have an adapter that may lengthen the post a little, but in my case, I still do not think it will work.

I don't think it will work

After reading many posts on here, I was convinced that the Simrad was the way to go too. BUT then I realized that with the fiberglass pedistal, THERE IS NO WAY it its going to fit unless you cut a hugh hole for the motor. I reluctantly bought the ST4000 MKII despite all the bad reviews you read on here.. guess what.. it works great, no problems. I was also real happy to find that Hunter did put the power feed all the way from the panel to the pod (2001 H320). It still took quite a while to install but the results are great. The ST4000 is also the bridge from my Garmin GPS to the Raymarine DSC radio. Gary

Wiring the remote

I installed the WP32 on our Hunter 34 last weekend and all went very well. the only question I have is it seems to call for the remote to have 12V power run to the 3 outlet connector if you dont have Simet plugged into the third connection, is that correct or am I reading the instructions incorretly Thanks

Power to remote

Yes, you do have to supply the remote with 12 vdc to the 3 way connector when not connected to simnet.

Did you have any problems with the Kit (E15017)

When you installed the ST 4000+MKII, I assume that you used the Bulkhead/Box Pedestal Fitting Kit (E15017) to install the motor into the Pedestal box. Did you have any problems with this kit? I have a separate circuit for the VHF and instrument POD in this console too. However, when I plug in a hand held spot light in trips the circuit breaker. Did you run a new circuit? Thanks, Mark
