HI,

I am going to purchase a stero system for my 2002 Hunter. There has never been any tyope of system in the boat . It will be a plain CD radio receiver type with two speakers in the cockpit and two in the cabin.
I may have this professionally installed. Does anybody have any recomendations as to placement of the system - wireing or location for cabin speakers. Any tips would be appreciated, where I live there are not many installers who deal with sailboats.
If you have any photos or plans you could mail them to early1950@comcast.net , thank you any help would be appreciated. I want to make this a nice job!!

Earl,
I installed a Panasonic car radio above the table and Bose speakers on the port and starboard sides of the cabin, but haven't installed cockpit speakers yet. This is a picture we took for fun a couple years ago, and you can see the receiver/CD player and one of the speakers.

I ran the wiring and power cable upward into the ceiling liner via the square access hole next to the mast, then through the ceiling back to the electrical panel in the galley. To do that I had to use a wall-fish wire puller instead of the wire tube that Hunter installs as standard because my tube had been crushed when the liner and deck were assembled.

I wired the stereo power to one of my spare electrical switches and left the remaining wires dangling for future cockpit installation. As for the Bose speakers I screwed and glued their mounting bases into place, then drilled holes in the ceiling liner to run wires back to the receiver.

Finally, I tried using a small flexible antenna mounted on the deck, but it got in the way too often and I settled on leaving an antenna wire loose in the space between the liner and deck. It seems to work just fine, and I use the CD player usually anyway. Hope that helps! If you'd like more details or pictures let me know.

Thank you for the response, you answered my concern about running wiring back to the box and the hollow section between the deck and ceiling liner. I like your placement of the stereo system. I may emulate your project.

For the cockpit I am researching the "Navpod" speaker system for under the stern seats. They look easy to install and do not mandate any hole cutting in the fiberglass.

Be well,
