install fuel sender

I've just pulled fuel tank and cleaned my 1980 C30 gas tank due to water and crap accumulation built up over the years (Atomic 4 power. I'm going to replace the sender with an after market item and am wondering if the 5 hole original back in 1980 was an SAE pattern and will be compatable with a modern replacement. Thanks

Jim,

I wish I had an answer to your question, but I don't. I'd just say, use aluminum hardware to mount the new sender if you have to use new holes so you don't have a corrosion problem later.

And then I would say..... I'd love to see some pictures of a Catalina 30 in Dutch Harbor! :)

our summer home dutch harbor is in rhode island 3 miles from the mouth of narragansett bay 9 nautical miles to newport harbor and a heck of a long way from dutch harbor in alaska.

I recently installed the sender that Catalina Direct sells. It is a generic sender that will fit a variety of sized tanks. I believe mine is 18 gallons, so I had to size it...the directions are very simple to follow. The best part is that the top fits the stock holes in the tank!

Now I can look at my engine panel and know for sure how much fuel I have. It turns out my Yanmar diesel hardly uses any fuel...less than 1 quart per hour!

Yes Foolproof, remind all the folks that like to bash the Yanmar12HP & 5411HP of the incredible fuel economy that we get with these lil' work horse engines, that will run forever if properly maintained. Cheers.

I replaced the fuel sending unit in my 84 C30. Same unit that was original (?), West Marine for about $40, I ordered from somewhere else for less. The hole patterns were the same.
