Our boat is 10 years old and have not replaced any of the furling lines. I saw some time ago how to do this, but can't seem to find it. Seems line you have to drill out the rivets to get at the source, but before I got my drill out, was wondering if somebody can send step by step instructions.

I know everything is easy once you know how....

Are you talking the furling line or the clew outhaul and is it a Selden mast? You could check the manufacturers web site for info... I know the Selden site has instructions on how to run and splice the furling line.

If it is a Z Spar system go to US Spar website. I think you'll find instructions there. If not let me know and I'll try and walk you through it.

I kept looking on the Beneteau site. I need to look at the Z spar site. I think that is where I saw it. I know it is not a Charleston Spar. I keep trying to find a better boom car which doesn't cost hundreds to install. I hope the new liine works ..

Thanks to you and Scott B!

I replaced the boom car on my z Spar system. Got the parts from US Spar. It wasn't particularly expensive and it was very easy. They send the car out attached to a short piece of track that has been modified to sit on the boom and line up with the existing track. You simply remove the end cap on the track, remove the existing car (delron bearings will fall out and you will be finding some for a year or two), line up the short modified track with the one mounted on the boom and roll the car onto your track. Replace the end cap and you're done. It seems to me that it cost under $100 but it's been several years ago and I may not be remembering correctly.

Good Luck.

We must have a different boom...

I must have a different boom. I did order the same you described and then realized it won't work on our boom. Our boom has a single slot down the middle and the car just slides inside. I asked US Spars at the Annapolis boat show and they said I could also buy the track for about $300. That on top of the $200 boom car just seemed too much. I will check my boom. Maybe take out our car and put some nylon underneath to make it slide better.

It was easier than I thought. It is a Charleston Spar boom. The furling drum has a large set screw. Take it out and the line is free. No rivets to drill out or anything...

What kind of line

Chris what kind of line did you use - something soft or may be a sta set x that is a little firmer and less likely to gethung up?

lines used

Went to West Marine and used braided nylon. A liitle bit thicker line for the outhaul than the inhaul. It was the fiine not course braided. The orginal lines seemed to have a lot of fabric (not nylon) and they seemed to wear although I just replaced for the first time after 10 years...
