I have found an Out Island 33, that seems to be very reasonably priced. It is a 76 model, and I suppose a shoal draft if there is such a thing. Draws 4.5 ft. Diesel, new sails, all new paint and wiring a year aqo. What should I look out for on this boat, and what should I look for on this boat. Does anyone have some idea of what is a fair price for this boat. Thanks

Morgan Out Island 33

If you are stuck maybe you could start at yachtworld.com, there are 11 of them listed . They range from 1973 to 1979. Also if you Google "Morgan out island 33" there are many helpful hits. Good luck Mate. Homero.

The fight begins-

Morgan OI series are usually not very expensive compared to other makes of similar size and age because they are not that desireable. They are large inside if you want a dock condo, but if you enjoy sailing , they are somewhat of a dissapointment. OK, now, fire away

Morgan 33

Joe, the 1976 Morgan 33 50h.p. Perkins 11'10" beam 3'11" draft 14,500# cruiser has a 'Fair Market Value' range of:28,400 low 31,400 high and is changable due to location, care, and equipment. Naw Tony, not to worry, all are entitled to their opinions on all vessels. If into the marina-cocktail burgee=finkeel pretty non-functional Hunter, Beneteau, Jeaneau etc. If cruising worldwide, Hansie, Lod Nelson, Pearson-Crealock, Westsail, or a Morgan; proven cruisers.

Donald Street

I know everyone lives and breaths Donald Street...yeah right. Anyway, in one of his books he tells about delivering one from somwhere in the Caribe to New York. He says the boat makes one mile to leeward for every mile forward. And that it accomplishes this feat at a very slow rate of progress. Other than that they don't look very good. Minor details.

Drillin' rig Tony!

Hiya mate! Allied is a good solid vessel, just kinda run outta space; didn't make any close firends from the 'French' yachties. Some of these are good performers, like a Beneteau or a Hunter, delivered many of them, but they are thin to take the big punch falling off a wave, and I like a traditional 'tracking' vessel especially in a storm.I like lying a-hull. Yer right bout the 'fight begins' haaaaaaa. Liam, I don't 'breath' Mr. Street, but ANY yacht will make mucho leeway in the wrong conditions, even a high aspect racing yacht, but 1 to 1 is not too good for clawing off a lee shore. He would not possibly be saying that a Morgan does that ANY time she goes to windward, that would be a foolish blanket statement. Looks, for me I like a yacht to 'look' like a battle-tank ready for war!If you really want esthetics, buy a wooden yawl or a Hans Christen. Most of the damn fine cruisers are slow and none go to windward well either, but when you get caught in that 'survival storm' you will be much happier in the thick glass, full keel, the shine & wax won't scare those combers away...

Men, I thought many, if not most of these boats

were owner assembled. Right? Like a Westsail. Or did I transpose their identities?

Capn Ron !!!

Will be leaving from Dunedin, Fl. , near Tampa. Herbparsons and Nice n Easy from this crowd are comming with me. It ought to be fun. Ms. Coast and Slidell still have many submerged cars, semi's, houses and containers from Gulfport harbor container ships. probably wont be fun or safe for some time to come. Nice seeing you back here again. I bought a 39 Allied Mistress Ketch Aft Cockpit. She sails much better than i expected.

I have to agree with Cap'n Ron

The thing is a tank. She ain't fast and not real easy on the eye, and not the best boat going to weather. That said, she is solid as a rock and will take a lick not like some other production boats I have delivered. No hull flex like the Bendy-toe's, etc. She is forgiving and comfortable, she will take you anywhere you want to go. She tracks like she is on rails. Lots of room, a floating condo. It all depends what you are looking for. Want a boat for the squeaky yachties get an Island Packet. Want a boat to just cruise around the lake and race once in awhile get a production light weight plastic boat. (names withwheld on purpose) Want a boat to be able to take more than you can? The Morgan is one of them Fair Winds Cap'n Dave

Good solid boats.

Good solid boat designed by Charlie Morgan. U shaped galley with wrap around dinette and a forward stateroom. Sleeps 6-7. For a good clean boat $25,000 would not be out of the question. They usually had a 50HP Perkins. Have the boat surveyed and take it from there. The center cockpit 41 outisland has become a classic for its roomy interior and bulletproof construction. There used to be an event held yearly out of Clearwater, FL called the Morgan Invasion where these boats congregated, raced and had a merry old time. Mr Morgan is still with us in retirement. Catalina purchased the name and has launched the Catalina /Morgan line.

That reminds me,

Back in the mid 70's when I first started sailboat racing, I usually competed with an Out island 41 with my Ensenada 20. (outboard powered, swing keel, no spreaders) I never lost to a OI41. And I was just learning,,,,
