I'm looking for a good solution to managing the sail slugs when I reef. A rigger told me he had seen an elegant solution on a couple of Hunters. He described a hinged mast gate that flipped out of the way to insert the sail slugs, and then closed neatly to keep the slugs in the track while sailing. I've seen other mast gates that were attached with screws that had to be done/undone every time the boat was rigged and I'd prefer to avoid having to do that every weekend. I'd love to see some pictures of the Hunter mast gate he described. Thanks in advance

Thumbscrew

My Hunter is an older model from '88 with an Isomat mast. On the Isomat mast they have a plate about four inches long that fits over the slot where the slugs can be removed and it is held in place by a thumbscrew. I keep a spare plate and thumbscrew for the day when one or the other go overboard but so far I've been lucky. Hunter purchases masts from several manufacturers and hopefully you get a response from one of them with the elegant solution you describe.

I'm also interested

Judy, I am also interested in finding a better way to reef without messing with the thumbscrew track stopper. This is the arrangement on my '99 H240. There has got to be a better way. Hope someone has some suggestions.
