Hunter 31 Patchogue
I'm a new owner of a hunter 31 and I'm trying to bring it back to its original condition. The PO removed and threw away all the lexan(?) doors for the shelving units. I want to replace them. Hunter has no info on sizing and or knowledge of what material they are. Any info on where I might go for these, or info on sizing would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Also, the PO replaced the mast support beam. It's a butcher job to say the least. I read some of the mod articles but don't recall seeing the exact length the beam is suppose to be. I believe this beam is too long, as the cap that covers the wires is shorter than the beam. Also, I think it is not the right diameter, there is a large gap for the head door. Even after he pit another board over the support beam. Thanks for any help you can provide!

You may be on your own with replacing the acrylic (plexiglass) doors. I don't see the age of your boat but if more than a few too many years, this would explain why Hunter has no archival info.

If you're into woodworking, acrylic is a real pleasure to work with. If not, I think your best bet would be to take measurements of all the required sliding doors and then check your phone book for plastic fabricators in your area. I would think the cost would be minimal to cut the pieces to size. I would think 1/4" thick should be sufficient. Check the existing tracks to be sure. Probably have 3/4" finger holes for opening the doors.

You need to check the slots in the track to determine the proper thickness. 1/8" (0.125") is common. Also, when measuring the size be aware the slots in the top track are deeper than the slots in the bottom track. The finished sliders are put into the top track first, all the way in and then lowered into the bottom. The proper height measurement is from the deepest part of the top track to the top edge of the bottom track, just a hair under that.

The choice of material is all yours as long as the thickness fits the track. I used acrylic bronze mirror material.

I took a look at mine today- I suspect they are much the same as on your 31. Mine I think are Plexiglas and probably 3/16 thick. They are several different lengths- the openings vary in size and the overlap varies.
