I have an Island Packet 35 with a 15 gallon holding tank and an electric Jabsco head. The head seems to require quite a long button push any time there is more than liquids to flush, resulting in a very short time between trips for a pumpout (2 days last time around). I am considering changing to the recommended Raritan PH-II manual head to gain the ability to dry flush. Any thoughts as to how many additional flushes per holding tank I might get? I am guessing it might double the number of flushes I get. Also looking for a recommendation on a holding tank gague that costs less than the electronic tank tender.

Also depends on your procedures.
For liquid waste, we use ~ a pint to rinse the bowl and pump it all the way to the tank. (The Raritan can use air pressure to move the waste - no need for extra water). This prevents waste from sitting in the hose. For solids, I'm guessing two 1-quart flushes that are again, pumped all the way to the tank. With those estimates, you should get 25 - 30 flushes easy w/o FILLING your tank. As GuyT said, it also depends on your hose length. Hopefully, it is no more than 10 ft.

Fill and Empty are self evident. Flush however will both fill and empty at the same time and therefore require more water thus filling the holding tank faster. I advise any of my crew or passengers to use only fill and empty unless there is something that absolutely has to be flushed through.

on my Bene, I have a 12g holding tank, but with careful use, the wife and I get five days before needing a pumpout. We have a manual MSD and are stingy with water, flushing with fresh water.

Just requires putting a loop immediately after the toilet that's above the top of the tank, so that you only have to flush long enough to clear the top of the loop...then gravity will get it the rest of the way. Corvette, not all Jabsco electric toilets are the same. Apparently the ones on your boat are either the 29200 "conversion" that replaces a manual pump on the same base, or one of the 58020 series "deluxe" all china thrones...'cuz they're the only Jabsco models that allow the user to control the flush water. On 99% of boats that have Jabsco electric toilets, it'll be one of the 37010 series, which has an integral intake pump that runs while the toilet is flushing.

Thanks for the replies - I already have the loop up and above the head right after the waste exits the head and then downhill to the tank. Is there a way to reduce the waterflow to the pump such that it uses less water during the combined flushing and filling that seems to be the only option I have with my current head? Any thoughts on how many additional flushes I might get if I changed to a manual head?

Eric, it is kinda hard to determine how many
additional flushes you might get if we don't know how many you get now. To clarify my first post, we have the Raritan PHII and get 25-30 flushes easy before I even think about pumping out. For us, that works out to about 7-8 sailing days.
