INCREASING COOLING OF EXISTING SYSTEM

On my P42, the refrig seems to stay very cool but the freezer never gets below about 15 degrees, making it risky to keep things truly hard frozen, especially ice cream. There seems to be two ways to improve the syste. 1. Add water cooling to the system. 2. Increase the box insulation. QUESTION 1. Is ther an off the shelf water cooling kit that woudl fit the Passage 42 Adler Barbour System? QUESTION 2. Has anyone tried some of the ready made, cut yourself high R-factor panels in their Hunter? Either or both may be good solutions. Any ideas or comments?

Increasing the insulation would be the most effective way to decrease the box temperature. If the system is an air cooled only unit, it is not possible to water cool it. Water cooling does NOT affect the temperature of the icebox. It only decreases the amount of run time in high ambient temperatures. It is also possible to switch to a colder range tstat. To determine if your box is capable of achieving low temps, try this: remove the wire leads from the back of the tstat and tape the ends together("jump the thermostat"). The system will then run non stop. See how low of a temperature you can achieve. If your box will drop to the lower temps you need, then contact us and we can set you up with a differant tstat.Remember, Colder Temps = more amps!

Second on that tstat idea

I met a guy here in Seattle who said that both the frig and the freezer side had identical tstats. He replaced the freezer thermostast and said it would now freeze ice cream (and isn't that the ultimate test?). But like Bill said, and so did this owner, it ate up the amps!
