I will be adding inboard tracks onto my 1982 model C-22 this spring. I will keep the original tracks in place. They are each four feet long, the same as the outboard tracks. They are the obsolete 15/16" width obtained from Catalina Direct so I can move thecars from track to track if such proves beneficial.I removed the foward stanchions and lead the lifeline down from the eye in the top of the aft stanchion to the bracket at the bottom of the particular stanchion base Catalina used for the boat. The aft part of the track will be placed about 5 inches inboard of the original track with its butt end aligning with the original track. The aft inboard side will be as close to the cockpit coaming as practicable for car movement.I talked with the Catalina Direct technical department and it was suggested that since I planned on using all four feet of the inboard tracks that I should angle the tracks outboard from aft as opposed to running them straight up along the coaming and the side of the cabin. This should help loosen the jib foot when the cars are moved forward. While this appears sensible to me, I cannot help to think that this may defeat the purpose of inboard tracks. In essence, inboard aft, but outboard forward.I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.I currently use a 135% furling jib and sail in Long Island Sound. At this point I do not race, however, I hope to do so in PHRF style races in the future.
