Looking for the pros and cons for installing an inboard in a 25 that was not built to have one...

using outboard myself, yamaha 4 stroke 8 hp bought new for aprox. 3000 usd
inboard diesel engine will be at least the dubble of money, takes alot of time for installing, and never the less, making mountings with blocks of hardwood and GRP and making another hole in ur ship for shaft&prop.
do's : making electricity by dynamo run on engine. and thats about it
anyway, a diesel inboard is nice to have,

Anyway, a diesel inboard is nice to have, an outboard is cheaper, less maintenance and nevertheless, how many hours do u use your engine in a year? im only making 20 hours in a year on the engine(60 sailing days)

I have had both inboard and outboard equipped boats. I prefer outboards. They are cheaper to maintain, usually move the boat just as fast, do not take up storage space in the boat and can be replaced in 10 minutes.
I think the key phrase in your question is "not built to have one". Even a small 1 cylinder diesel is going to add a lot of weight and change the balance of your boat while sailing. You are also going to have to "rebuild" the structure of your boat where you mount the engine to handle the stress of a vibrating engine as well as all of the hassle of cutting a hole below the water line for the prop shaft, struts for the shaft etc. Then you need to worry about running the control cables and lines to the cockpit too.
Seems like a lot of trouble to go through when a good outboard with a charging system built in could solve all your problems with half the cost and hassle. Just my thoughts
