Well, finally splashed! Saturday morning, didn't get all the work I wanted to do done, but I had to get the boat out of the marina by the 15th.

(didn't quite finish the post - had a keyboard malfunction) I didn't get the chainplates pulled/inspected/rebedded, the boat was about an hour away and the first few times I went down to her it was too windy to be messin' with a stick in the air (I was sceared), she's about 10 minutes away so I'll get her done. Had to motor about 45 miles (against a head wind and 4-5' seas), but things worked out; I had changed the fuel filters the day before, and the oil the week before, being my first diesel I was a bit apprehensive, but the motor ran fine. A dumb question - diesels always smelly and noisy, or do I need to beef up the compartment insulation?
Sam - I noticed you have added midships cleats - do you have them mounted to the deck, or the toe-rail? do they make cleats that mount to the toe-rail?

I had toerail folding cleats on my boat when I got it a year ago. I've used them for spring lines and to hang fenders. You can find them online at Defender.

My mid ship cleats are mounted through the deck through the thickest, strongest part right next to the rail. Big backing plates inside. I also have a set of the Johnson rail mount cleats that bgrube showed. They are slightly further forward. My boat sticks out about 12 feet beyond the pilings. My cleat arrangement allows me to run a line with Dr. Shrink's Tide Minder Balls around the pole so the boat can ride up and down and remain in position. Never had trouble with any of it. The cleats by the way are from New Found Metals. Very nice.
