New at this. Any idea what to purchase and where?
Now, is this anything like a muffler bearing :biggrin: ?
Sorry, don't mean to be a smart a$$ but it's just not a term that's too familiar. Any chance you're referring to the bearing that supports the shaft back near the prop ? That would be the cutlass bearing and there's a good instructional here for replacement.

Give us a description (or better yet a picture) of the device you're after and I'm sure someone will be able to set you on the right course.

Cutlass bearing yes! No picture available but could get one sometime this week.

Take a look at MaineSail's article on replacing the cutlass bearing. When I did this on my boat a few years ago, I had trouble removing the prop so I just undid the trans coupling and dropped the shaft strut. I took the whole unit home to work on it in my shop. Don't forget to realign the coupler when you reinstall the unit.
