Hello - I have a new Beneteau 31 that I plan to pull the in-mast main out of to apply sail numbers...has anyone encountered any hiccups when removing their in-mast furled main with a US Spars mast/furler?

I just plan to pull the main out and drop the halyard...don't know if there's more to it than that?

thanks,
-Dan

Sounds right. Nothing more to it than that.

I tie a piece of string around the clevis that attaches the clew to the mast to tether it. Since I have to reach though an access window I am just little more comfortable in case I drop it inside the mast or my luck bounce it into the water. Simple slip knot is all it takes. Of course I never dropped it but the moment I don't use the teather I will :)

dropping main

That's pretty much it but don't just let it fall on its own. Controll the decent and pull the luff out of the foil as it is being lowered. It can be done single handed but is easier with another set of hands.

Do you have vertical battens? The reason I ask is that on my 1986 281, with Zspar (now US Spar) the slot and rolling capacity around the foil were very tight and I think the thickness of numbers on the sail might have made for problem. Surely, on a new boat like yours they have improved the system.
