Hello. Moral of the story up front…when ‘buying’ a premade continuous line for your inmast furling sail…buy the blocks pre-installed.

So, wanted to start the replacement of the running rigging around the boat before we set out on or cruising life. When replacing the continuous line for the inmast furling sail, I only ordered the line…premade. Big mistake. I cannot find a replacement for the blocks at the foot of the mast to use on this line. Because it is continuous, there is now no bitter end to slide through the block. So, I have to find a block that can be taken apart so I can put the line in, put it back together and then installed at the base of the mast.

Question, has anyone else been dumb like me? If so, what block did you buy to fix this issue? It is a 10mm line.

Lesson learned 1, replacing the clutches (unless they are too old or broke) is not necessary. The split ring inside a new Spinlock clutch that is used to put on and already constructed continuous line is not needed. Just take the old ones and use a metal cutting disk on a dermal to cut the ring. That is the ONLY thing different between the two clutches.

Lesson learned 2, if you’re new to splicing or if you’re an old pro…do not buy a pre-made continuous line. Seldom made the one I bought and my 7 y/o grand daughter could do a better job. But because I’m stubborn, I’m not cutting it because I paid for it and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna mess it up. Beside, pretty sure my wife would hurt me if I did.

Anyway, what blocks do any of you know of which can be taken apart and reassembled to install at the foot of the mast. Who makes them and what are they specifically called. Thanks.

Or splice your own line. It is easy only takes about 30 min the first time 15 min after. Done it a few times, just google it and follow the video. I know a little late for you now but "Lesson #3." Splice your own and save time and $.

I have used Selden In Mast Furling for many years and miles. I was wearing out the furling line and parts of the system. So I went to work designing a single line furling system like our jib furlers. The SS drum attaches to the non modified casting. You can watch the YouTube video. Now there is less load to furl and reef the mainsail.
