Hi, I recently purchased your book, but left it at a friends vacation condo and will not get it back for another couple of weeks. Question is, I recently saw a West Marine catalog with an add for an "in-line treatment system". You install a "dispenser" between the water intake and the bowl, the chemical which comes in a solid is then released every time you pump. I will be following you books advise and replace hoses and the vent line but what's your though on this? It does seem to eliminate the need to add chemicals each week to the tank. Thank You..

Inline device intended to prevent INTAKE odor

from sea water left to sit and stagnate in the intake line and pump. They don't replace holding tank products, despite any mfrs' claims to the contrary. I'm not a fan of intake inline devices...their effectiveness is marginal even at eliminating intake odor...they can be messy...salt water minerals can clog 'em...and the chemicals can react negatively with other chemicals in holding tank products...destroy the effectiveness of non-chemical products like K.O. or Odorlos. So save your money (spend it on another copy of my book to keep on your boat if you're gonna keep leaving your copy in other people's houses g>). If you have a problem with sea water intake odor, there are better, cheaper ways to eliminate it permanently.
