In-Line Ball Valve?

Peggy- I just purchased a new Raritan Cricket head and will install it soon. I know it is a good practice to shut the raw water seacock to the head when not in use. However, the seacock is under the aft stateroom next to the drive shaft ( a little precarious if you are motoring). Therefore, I would like to place a shut-off valve in the head on the water intake to make access easier. Looking at the West Marine catalog, I noticed a Marelon Ball Valve and wondered if this would work. Any recommendations?? Gary Scheier S/V "Serenisea"

Similar problem.

I also installed a Cricket. I have to be sure that the crew leaves the valve on "DRY" when finished. If not the bowl will overflow. And Raritan could help with a better lever and larger print! But I have the solution in the garage, a marelon vented-loop and some additional hose. This replaces the short 1"x12" hose behind the bowl. I already have a vented-loop in the output hose. You should only have to shut off the water supply(close the thru-hull) when leaving the boat(Peggy will disagree). Not closing the seacock leaves you exposed at the hose and the clamps.

Marelon ball valve is fine...

But also put a vented loop in the intake line between the pump and the bowl.
