Our 1st season sailing "Second Wind" a 2001 Hunter 290/306 with in mast furling. Does anyone know any great resources on how to get the most performence out of this rig. In light air it seems that I am standing still while others are flying past. It's a wonderful boat and we love it!

Your first BIG problem is the in-mast furling. Limited sail area and limited sail shape controls are a prime factor. For off-wind sailing at least, you should have a large asymmetrical spinnaker. This will go a long way to helping supply the power needed to move your boat along. Other things to consider, a clean and smooth bottom, feathering prop, empty the tanks, dump any gear that isn't a must. Many folks feel the need to drag half of their house around with them and wonder why the boat will not perform. As to sailing skills and trim, buy Don Guillette's book "Sail Trim"(available on this site). It's the best investment in sailing knowledge you will ever make.
