Can the H-27 (shoal draft 75-84) be supported by the two top beams of the IMM 10,000# lift without support of the keel ? These 12'6" beams are slightly flexible. Not having committed to any lift yet, I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get it out of the water at my dock.

For short periods...

My understanding of sailboat lifting is that you can lift the boat without supporting the keel for short periods of time (like a day or two, tops), but if you're planning on storing it for any length of time, you should have some sort of keel support. The distribution figures I usually see are to put 80% of the boat's weight on the keel, and 20% on bunk boards/cradle pads/whatever. I'm not really sure why you shouldn't just let the keel hang there, but these are recommendations made by several different boat yards I've been through. -- Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'
