Peggy, You mentioned the IMHO sanitation hose as the best anti-permeability approach to controlling "head odor" in a boat. Can you tell me where to purchase this brand. I've tried everything you've suggested and I'm sure a hose replacement is required. I'd rather do it once, no matter what the cost rather than repeatedly with traditional hoses. Henry Rozanski

IMHO....

Hi Henry, IMHO isn't a brand of sanitation hose; it is e-mail jargon for IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, or in some cases IN MY HONEST OPINION. Peggie usually touts SeaLand sanitation hose (made by the same people as the Vacu-Flush toilet. I didn't see the original post, but I'd guess that the SeaLand hose was what she was recommending. Being in direct competition with SeaLand, I can't offer any critique of the hose.

Head Master ?????

This almost sounds like in Peggy's absence while she changes latitudes by moving to Little Rock that there may be a "Head Master" to offer advice . . . . If you are in direct competition with Peggy's usual recommendation (Sealand) but, like Kris Kringle in "Miracle on 34th Street" sending Gimbel's customers to Macy's or vice versa, may we ask your affiliation. In addition, having posted while Peggy is away moving, about my antique Par head(see "Where to start?" do you have any advice to offer?? Thanks in advance . . . . George

SeaLand "OdorSafe" brand hose is...

the only hose on the market that's apparently "bullet proof" when it comes to odor permeation. If you can't find a dealer in your area, call SeaLand at 800-321-9886. And btw...Vic Willman is the tech services mgr at Raritan. While he can't offer any pro or con advice about any product that competes with Raritan products, he is indeed the "head master" when it comes to anything Raritan makes--or has made in the last 25 years, and is WELL qualified to answer ANY questions that aren't "what brand is best..." He's also a great guy and a good friend. Thanks for covering for me Vic!

Ordorsafe in One Size Only

We did the hose thing twice before we realised we were spending more time fixing the head ordors then sailing. A 31' Hunter is a bear to feed the hoses to the tank. Ordorsafe is great although does not come in 1" or 3/4" for venting. We replaced the WM and BAU vent hose three times and still this would go every 6 months. The ordor gets baked into everything! You can smell the hoses 50 feet away! Our new solution to this real problem with boats was to put in new hose for the new future owner, plug the ends and put the toilet in the attic for re-installation when we trade it in. We put in a little porti-toilet. Immediatly after each trip, I walk two minutes to the mens room and in one small flush, no more problem. If we leave the boat for a few weeks, the porti-head comes out of the boat for another exterior wash at home. I will not take a chance on this problem again. I think some of the chemicals in the tank treatments do a number on the hoses. Good luck.
