*butt OK Wayne, I'm in..... This is getting crazy *cry . This site seems to be OK for general communication but what about documentation and videos and, and, and...... I think you get my drift. I'm about to drop all my activity from all the SC sites. I have enough contacts out there that will answer any questions I have about my boat. That sounds a little SHELLFISH but like I said, I've allmost had enough of the WWW endfighting about who had the first SC site, the best SC site, the most members, etc....... I'll hang out for a while and see how things shake out... Dakman Living to sial, sailing to live....

Uploads

MSN had their own file transfer system as part of the features on the site. To transfer a photo, you would use a browers and pick the photo you wanted and then transfer it. Size didn't matter but you only had 3gig assigned to each users so you would have to delete old stuff as you uploaded the new. Trailer Sailor allows photos but they limit the size. I do see images that are posted on TT that are larger but I'm not quite sure how folks get around that. Check out the Trailer Sailor site, the link is attached. later, Dakman

Actually, we have the same thing here

_Really_ large photos will time out but anything under about 1 meg is OK. it also makes a thumbnail and puts it in your post. Like so... But, how did MSN handle pdfs and movies??

Hey Dak

There is an inherent problem with message boards and the folks who create them and or manage them. There is a certian individual I spent a great deal of time trying to get him to understand this issue. Alas I failed and we are still paying the price. "There are people that actually belive they own the members of any message board they manage." They have some misguided concept that just because they manage a message board it is a symbol of acceptance and importance. The idea of managing a message board means setting it up so that it takes care of itself. The only thing a manager should do is fix any problems. A message board means nothing. Only the individual members are important. It is all of us working together that makes the community. Even the lurkers are important. My only advise is don't let yourself get sucked into the hype about the FIRST message board. Anyone who makes that claim is an idiot. Secondly every single members must understand. There is only one way to judge a message boards sucess. That is by the folks who visit it. Anyone can set one up and say pretty much anything. I truly understand your pain, I have been there and you have no idea how much it pains me to deal with this situation again. I really don't want to go into all the history behind the South Coast Message boards. As far as I am concerned it happened, time to move forward. I can't tell you what to do. Every time we have gone thru growing pains we have lost a few members never to return. Concerning posting the vidios and other stuff. There is a sermon I have preached many times. I have tried my best to encourage everyone to build thier own web site. Thier own corner of the WWW to express themselves. It is not that hard. My site was originally just 4 pages. Message boards come & go. Often at the whim of whomever is hosting them. As we have all just seen sometimes for no good reason. Dak I have enjoyed your company over the years. My only regret is not being in a position to sail with you on the Pacific or Lake Mead. All documentation needs to be thru the SCOA site. It should have been that way all along. The SCST at MSN was just too convienent and now we are paying the price. Spilled milk, let it go and move forward. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Wayne
